It's been a little over 6 months now, and I am thinking of easing myself back into playing 5 a side..slowly and cautiously.Played an hour today, just passing the ball and jogging around. No sprinting, shooting ,tackling or dribbling. As funny as if sounds, I am just happy to be back on the field again and plan to be this cautious for atleast another month or 2.
ACL surgery experience
When I had my ACL injury,I found different articles/personal experiences/message boards extremely helpful and motivating.I wish to have the same impact however small on future ACLrs and at the same time documenting my experience as a hobby during this undesirable yet unforgettable injury.

10k run - check
Just completed my 10k run yesterday.Though I took a rather woeful 1hour 5 mins, the intention was to merely complete the 10k at the 6 month mark and nothing else.Yes the knee is rather sore today, but nothing out of the ordinary.Football is the next thing on my mind:).

5 months post op-training for a 10k
Fast forward to 5 months and there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.I have started training for a 10k run next month, which will be around the 6 month mark.I do think it is a bit ambitious as I was never that much of a runner.Anyways, I am starting with about 3km at a stretch on the treadmill and eventually progress till 10.

2 months post op
I had been taking it relatively easy in PT since my last post, where I thought I had done some damage to my ailing knee, and the pain and other symptoms seem to have settled down.Walking is completely normal now and the pace seems to be gathering, and he optimist in me keeps telling me that I will return to light football in four more months. The strengthening exercises are in full flow, starting with 2 KG straps and progressively adding a kilo every week.Quad muscles have started looking like quads, but there is still a long way to go.

6 weeks post op setback
So far so good.Rather so I thought.Yesterday was supposed to be yet another day, but sadly when I was on the bus, there was a sudden change of speed , and I felt what I thought was a fairly innocuous twist to my knee. The whole day was painful, and there was quite some pain at certain angles. The local ortho was not quite sure and told me that it could be anything, but atleast he confirmed that the graft was intact, which was definitely comforting.Fingers crossed.

3 weeks post-op
Life has been all about work and PT immediately after every single day, so it kinda sucks. The only thing that keeps me at it is football waiting for me at the end of it all(hopefully). My PT has stepped up and it involves a half hour on the static bike every day, along with the usual heel slides, straight leg raises with a half KG resistance among other stuff. The bike really feels like a savior and I can feel slow but steady progress everyday, though my flexion seems to have hit a bit of a plateau at 120-130, so there is still a lot of work to be done on that front.Walking seems to improve progressively, though stairs, especially downwards, is still extremely uncomfortable and quite painful.

Off crutches!!!!
Days 18 now, and all the sympathetic looks i get on the street,in office, and everywhere else has finally got to me.I now feel like I can manage safely enough without crutches, and so thats what I did.I still walk around with a slight limp, but its still quite a leap from feeling absolutely unstable on my knee without support a few days back.Due to logistical reasons I have changed my PT, and its off to a good start I would say.
